Sporting Corporate Challenge 2018

20th August 2018

Sporting Corporate Challenge

Since April 2018, Richard Venables (a director of our client Experience Oxfordshire) has been High Sheriff of Oxfordshire.

His focus for the year is on youth participation in sporting and cultural activities, with a specific focus on disadvantaged areas of Oxfordshire, disabled participation and highlighting mental health issues in Oxfordshire’s schools.

Richard believes passionately that sport and physical activity is an essential component to a happy and healthy life, and can transform lives.  Wellbeing in the workplace is an increasingly understood component to creating a productive and enthused workforce.

He strongly advocates the benefit of a collaborative approach between business, Local Authorities and the voluntary sector to create successful outcomes and came up with the idea of a Corporate Sporting Challenge to bring together over 20 businesses in Oxfordshire.

The Sporting Corporate Challenge included a Plankathon, Parkruns, Oxford Town and Gown 10K, and 7 a side Hockey festival. A number of our staff volunteered for several of the sporting challenges, with some of them doing their first ever parkrun, and others even roping in their children to participate.

The Sporting Corporate Challenge culminated in the Oxlympics at Abingdon School on Friday 13 July.

We were thrilled to be awarded a one-off special prize called the “Victor Ludorum”, the meaning of which is “A person who is the overall champion in a sports competition”.

Throughout the day, a number of Olympians were assessing who would win this prize, taking into account teamwork, enthusiasm and support for each other and other teams across the different events.

To be the overall winners of this prize and to come third overall out of twenty-three teams, makes us very proud of our Richardsons team.
